A young girl by the name Ada, who hails from Umuokoro Obinkita, Arochukwu of Abia State was rescued by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) from her abusive home.
Her mother has been accused of chaining and locking her up in the house by witnesses, who took to Social Media to share her story.
The First Lady of Abia State, Dr Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu also Chairman of Abia State Action Committee on Gender-based violence saw the post the disturbing post and ordered an investigation to be carried out.
The mother was later arrested by the police on Sunday 21st February by the NSCDC and reportedly told officials that the reason for her actions was to stop her daughter from running away due to her poor mental state.
A representative of Mrs Ikpeazu, Chika Ojiegbe told news representatives that Ada would be taken to a psychiatrist hospital by the First Lady’s Vicar Hope Foundation where she would be receiving treatment in hopes of recovery.
The arrest was later confirmed by Mr. Ndukwe, Public Relations Officer, NSCDC who added that the State Commandant of NSCDC has ordered for a thorough investigation on the case.
