It has been reported that the new Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, arrived Nigeria on Saturday for a one-week working visit.
Following the nomination and support given by the United States president Joe Biden, Okonjo-Iweala resumed at the Geneva-based WTO on March 1, 2021, as the first female and first African director-general of the organization.
The former Finance Minister arrived at the Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, on Saturday, and she revealed that she was in the country to see how to better assist Nigerian entrepreneurs and improve the economy.
Promising to meet President Muhammadu Buhari and some Ministers during this visit, she stressed the need for Nigeria to explore its share of trade in Africa through the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement.
Iweala added that her performance as the WTO DG between March this year and August 31, 2025, will open doors for Africans and women to lead international organisations.
