WAEC Mandates NIN For WASCCE Candidates From 2022

It has been reported that the West African Examinations Council, (WAEC) has made it known that the National Identification Number, (NIN) will become a major requirement for registration for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination with effect from 2022.

This was reportedly disclosed by the Head of Nigeria Office, WAEC, Mr Patrick Areghan, on Tuesday at a press briefing to announce preparations for the 2021 WASCCE.

According to him, “Let me use this medium to announce that as we continue to make progress in the conduct of the council’s business in Nigeria, NIN will become a major requirement for registration for the WASSCE with effect from the WASSCE for school candidates in 2022 and subsequent dates (No NIN, no entry!).”

He stated that, “This means that all prospective candidates must register with the National Identity Management Commission and get their NIN.  This is in line with the Federal Government’s policy as directed by the Federal Ministry of Education.”

He added that “Also, in accordance with the final international timetable, the WASSCE 2021 will take place throughout the sub-region from Monday, 16th August to Friday, 8th October 2021. However, the examination will end in Nigeria on 30th September 2021 – spanning a period of seven weeks.”
