Twitter: Malami Orders Prosecution Of VPN Users

After the ban of Twitter in Nigeria, tweeps have taken to the use of Virtual Private Network, (VPN), to tweet on Twitter.

This has infuriated the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, and he has ordered for the prosecution of the users.

He has directed the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation to start the immediate prosecution of those who violated the ban.

This was reportedly disclosed in a statement issued by the SSA to Malami, Umar Gwandu.

According to the statement, “The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice Abubakar Malami SAN has directed the immediate prosecution of offenders of the Federal Government ban on Twitter operation in Nigeria.”

The statement added that, “Malami directed the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation at the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, to swing into action and commence in earnest the process of prosecution of violators of the Federal Government De-activation of operation of Twitter in Nigeria.”

“Malami directed the DPPF to liaise with the Ministry of Information and Digital Economy, National Communication Commission and other relevant government agencies to ensure the speedy prosecutionof offenders without any further delay,” the statement added.
