The chaos in the US presidential election is an eye-opener to countries around the world. A quintessential example of the disproportionate power of Main Stream Media conjured with Social media at large, while one candidate was perpetually targetted for the last 4 years, thorn apart, shuffled, silenced and shadow banned.
“A government by the people in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system – is Democracy.” In the same phrase, Abraham Lincoln defines Democracy” as the government of the people, by the people, and for the people.” By U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Information Programs.
When Mainstream media collude with one party, pollute the public with unscrupulous and unsubstantiated persistent negative information for 4 straight years, refused to provide unbiased and trustworthy journalism coupled with social media selective shadow banning, conservative banning and opinion confinement. Is that Democracy? or is that Fair and justifiable?
Before you speed to judgment, pause, seat down, ponder and ask yourself this simple question. If the shoe was on the other foot how would you feel? Since this bias and gangster method was successful in the US what is preventing them from replicating it in Nigeria or other countries.
Today you may celebrate that he deserves it, they deserve it but what happens if they turn against “YOU” tomorrow? Should we allow CEO’s of Social Media and Mainstream companies to detect governance, who wins and who loses? Is that the new norms?.
I am not an American but an innocent observer… What happened in this election, how the mainstream Media restricted every factual negative news about Joe Biden, refused to ask him serious questions is inexcusable. How Social media pushed false narrative against Trump and ignored Biden? That on it own is not Democracy… that is Thugocracy, godfatherism and Social-Mediacracy at its best.
