Following the Federal Government’s directive about the linking of the National Identification Number NIN to individuals SIM card, the National Identification Management Commission NIMC has been trying possible efforts to reduce the large crowd that is always at their office to enrol due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nevertheless, NIMC had revealed that Telecommunications companies have been authorised to register people who do not have National Identity Numbers so as to reduce the large crowds at the offices.
According to the Director-General, NIMC, Aliyu Aziz, some other private and public organisations had also been authorised by the commission to provide NINs in order to curb the crowds at commission’s offices.
The Director-General NIMC, Aliyu Aziz has revealed in a WhatsApp message to Punch newspaper that, “We have licensed private and public sector organisations including telcos (telecommunications companies) so as to create more centres,”.
