The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently refer to appropriate anti-corruption agencies over allegations that billions of Naira meant to buy ammunition under the former Chief of Army Staff Major-General Brutai was misappropriated with no one to account for it.
SERAP said that any allegations of corruption in the spending of public funds must be promptly and thoroughly investigated. They made it known that the suspected perpetrators should be brought to Justice in fair trials if there is relevant evidence and any missing funds required.
The former Chief of Army Staff Major-General Buratai and some other Service Chiefs were sacked few weeks ago, due to incompetence in handling security challenges in Nigeria.
Buratai has been succeeded by Major-General Attahiru, and it has just been uncovered that funds meant for ammunition under Buratai was misappropriated with no one to account for it.
