Senator Abaribe Blasts President Over UK Medical Trip

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of going back on his words after his travel to the UK for medical treatment.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who had openly criticised the huge amount of money used for medical tourism when he became the President.

However, he was flown out to the UK for medical check-up on Tuesday 30th March.

Speaking with Seun Okinbaloye of the Politics Today show on Channels TV on Wednesday, Abaribe expressed his displeasure with the President’s choice of visiting a foreign country for treatment despite the availability of qualified personnels capable of handling his treatment in the country.

“It’s a crying shame that we have lost so much to the extent that just to do a medical check-up, you have to go all the way to London.

“We just see people who say something and do the exact opposite.

“People have been doing kidney transplants and all manner of things here which means that we already have certain facilities in local hospitals that can take all those medical procedures and there are many great Nigerian doctors who can do this.

“The Commander in Chief is fixated on running to another country and there is nothing much any of us can do about it.” he said.

Although, Abaribe stated that Buhari has done nothing wrong legally by seeking treatment abroad, he said that his wrong doing is based on moral standards after his criticism on medical tourism in the country before his election in 2015.

Speaking on the President’s order to service chiefs on the arrest of insurgencies within the country, he said; “He always makes a statement everytime these things happen but nothing happens.”

He further accused the President and APC of being all talk and no do due to the rise of insecurity in the country amidst Buhari’s orders to service chiefs against terrorism.
