Following agitations that President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide Lauretta Onochie should not be confirmed as an INEC commissioner, it has been reported that the Senate has rejected the nomination of Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
This was reportedly disclosed by the Chairman of the Committee, Kabiru Gaya, stating that Onochie did not satisfy the provisions of the Federal Character Principles.
According to reports, the Senate at the committee of the whole subsequently voted against her nomination.
Meanwhile, the Senate has reportedly confirmed the appointment of other five National Commissioners of INEC.
According to reports, the people President Muhammadu Buhari nominated, who were confirmed by the Senate were, Prof. Muhammad Sani Kallah (Katsina); Prof. Kunle Ajayi ( Ekiti); and Saidu Ahmad (Jigawa), Baba Bila (North East) and Abdullahi Zuru (North- West).
