The Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband at age 99.
The Duke of Edinburgh who has been sick for several weeks was reported to have died in the early hours of Friday 9 April 2021.
The statement issued by the palace at around mid day of Friday read: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
“Further announcements will be made in due course.
“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
British citizens have taken to the streets and the palace gates with flowers in hand to pay respect to the royal family.
Prince Philip was the longest serving royal consort in British history and was said to have inspired countless lives across the world.
