Presidential Elections Will Not Hold If Insecurity Persists

Samuel Ortom, Governor of Benue State has revealed that there would be no elections in 2023 if insecurity persists in Nigeria.

He said this to newsmen after paying a visit to the President on Tuesday over the insecurity crisis affecting the country.

The Governor stated that Nigeria is in a state of crisis, without seeking means to escape from it.

He appealed for the provisions of the constitution to be protected so as to bring about equality and justice within the country.

Ortom dismissed rumours claiming that his attack was staged stating that he was attacked by about 15 unknown gunmen who were suspected to be herdsmen and prayed that his experience should not befall anyone.

The Governor further stated that he has done nothing wrong by ceasing open-grazing within his state because he enacted the law through due process therefore it was impossible to fulfil the demands of the Miyetti Allah towards repelling it.

Pressing on, Ortom urged the Federal Government to admonish the country’s impunity towards attacks by terrorist groups by prosecuting anyone found resposible for breaching the law.
