Manchester United again put on another masterclass performance as they saw off hard fighting Aston Villa 2-1 on a New Year night at Old Trafford.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial ensured victory for the Red Devils against the Villains who had drawn level with a Bertrand Traore fine finish.
United raced into the lead with Anthony Martial putting the ball behind Martinez as he latched on from a Wan-Bissaka assist.
Villa drew level with Bertrand Traore but shot themselves in the foot after conceding a penalty few minutes later which club topscorer Bruno Fernandes cooly converted.
Speaking after the game, United boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer expressed his confidence with the Portuguese midfield maestro in taking the spot-kicks,
“Bruno Fernandes wants to take them and he is not afraid of missing. If he misses, then that will be a surprise.”
United are still second on the log but have now drawn level with toppers Liverpool who have a date with Southampton on Monday night.
