Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine To Arrive Nigeria By End of January-PTF

The Federal Government has announced the arrival of about a hundred thousand doses of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine by the end of January.

This was disclosed by the head of Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib in the weekly presidential taskforce briefing for Abuja.

Following the increase in Covid-19 cases in Nigeria, authorities worry that as the second wave of spread has come, many Nigerians are at great risk especially the aged population.

In effect Dr. Faisal said that the first doses will go to frontline health workers, strategic leaders and elderly people with other diseases.

He further explained that our country needs to vaccinate 70 percent of its population to eradicate Covid -19 from the nation. 40 percent of the 70 will get the vaccine this year while the remaining 30 will get it in 2022.

He also stated that the PTF in collaboration with the ministry of health, Primary Health Care Development Agency and other critical stakeholder are concluding the amount of money needed to acquire the vaccine, which will cover – the purchase, distribution and storage. The total amount will be announced by PTF in the coming days.
