Nigeria needed a late goal from Paul Onuachu to beat Benin Republic 1-0 in Port Novo to qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles‘ qualification was sealed before the start of the game as Lesotho and Sierra Leone played out a goalless draw in Maseru.
Kelechi Iheanacho was rewarded with a start as he partnered Victor Osimhen in the attack.
Nigeria dominated possession from the beginning of the game but they were unable to create any clear-cut chance.
The first half ended goalless after Henry Onyekuru’s header was saved by Benin Republic goalkeeper.
Paul Onuachu replaced Kelechi Iheanacho with 20 minutes to go and the Genk striker did not disappoint.
Onuachu scored a last-minute winner to give Nigeria the maximum points in Port Novo.
The Super Eagles will be back in Lagos at the Teslim Balogun Stadium to face Lesotho on Tuesday.
