Okonjo-Iweala Resumes As WTO DG

Former Finance Minister and World Bank Staff Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has officially resumed as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization WTO today .

This is coming after she emerged the winner against her South Korean counterpart, and was nominated by 164 members of the organization.

Iweala, who worked with World Bank for 25 years was initially stopped from becoming the DG, by the former President of the United States Donald Trump.

However, the emergence of Joe Biden as the winner of the United States 2020 Presidential election has paved way for Iweala in attaining the position of the DG, following Biden’s endorsement.
