Ogun Elects New Deputy Speaker

The Ogun State House of Assembly has elected Balogun Akeem,  a member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency, as the new Deputy Speaker earlier today.

According to reports, electing Balogun as the Deputy Speaker was coming after the former Deputy Speaker, Oludare Kadiri, who represents Ijebu-North II State Constituency was impeached for alleged gross misconduct.

Following a nomination by a member representing Remo North State Constituency, Solomon Osho, seconded by his Ijebu-North East counterpart, Abayomi Fasuwa, and support from other lawmakers at a plenary had made Balogun the Deputy Speaker.

The impeachment of Kadiri last week Thursday has created a vacuum in the office, and a new Deputy Speaker was urgently needed. This had led Balogun to take the oath of office and that of allegiance respectively which were administered on him by the Clerk today.
