Following the brutal massacre that took place last Saturday at Zabarmari, Jere local government area of Borno State, the Northern Elders Forum had ordered the immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari over the inability to secure the lives of Nigerians.
Dr Hakeem Baba- Ahmed who is the spokesperson of the forum had said that the best decision was for the president to resign since he cannot secure the nation.
Going down the memory lane, Dr Hakeem had said that President Muhammadu Buhari had called out the former president of the country Goodluck Jonathan to resign two years before he himself assumed office due to insurgency.
He as well made reference to the fact that the United States rescue mission flew into Nigeria to rescue a US citizen that was abducted and nobody had the knowledge of it.
The spokesperson acknowledged that though it wasn’t easy to be a leader, President Muhammadu Buhari had no excuse because this menace had continued for the past 6 years and it’s getting worse with Nigerians living in fear.
He noted that in a democratic society and as a democratic President if he can no longer protect the lives and properties of citizens, the best thing was to resign.
According to him, the president was once a Major General and he should be able to use his knowledge of the military to tackle insurgency in Nigeria.
