Nigeria Threatens To Withdraw From ECOWAS Over Recruitment Malpractice

The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS has halted the ongoing recruitment exercise following allegations that Nigerians were being marginalized in the recruitment process.

This was disclosed by the Speaker of the Parliament, Dr Sidie Tunis, noting that a panel has been set up to investigate the alleged malpractices in the recruitment exercise.

ECOWAS had received written complaints from the first Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase and the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the ECOWAS Commission, Amb. Musa Sani Nuhu, that it would withdraw its membership if its citizens are being marginalized in respect to employment and promotions.

However, Dr Tunis had made it known that an  eight-man independent Ad Hoc Investigation Committee has been set up and it’s expected to begin investigation

in August 2022, in which its findings is expected to be made available to the speaker within a week.
