Not less than five persons have allegedly been killed even as seven others were injured following a dispute over land between Uko Ntenghe and Uko Akpan communities in Mbo local government of Akwa Ibom State.
The ongoing dispute was reawoken when some militant youths from Uko Ntenghe, on Monday, allegedly invaded the land and raped a woman who was farming and took her hostage, while a detachment of the militants reportedly sneaked into Enwang, the headquarters of Uko Akpan and killed five persons.
It was also reported that the armed youth opened gunfire injuring some persons including the clan head’s son. This left residents with the only choice of running for their lives. They were also said to have burnt down houses and cars.
As the community remains Deserted, the whereabouts of the clan head, HRH Ovong Bassey Atabia II is still unknown.
The Police has responded to the situation via the Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon, a Superintendent of Police, saying they were on top of the matter. But even still the Enwang community wants reinforcement from other sister security agencies to protect their community.
