This was revealed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state on Sunday, Odiko Macdon, noting that 20-year-old Akpan lured Umoren to his residence under the pretext of offering her a job before he raped, killed and buried the young graduate.
According to reports from the PUNCH, the victim went missing while attending a job interview in Akwa Ibom on Thursday, adding that she had earlier tweeted via her handle, @HinyHumoren, that she needed a job and people had suggested prospective employers to her.
Meanwhile, @UmohUduak1, who identified as the job seeker’s friend, raised the alarm on Thursday via Twitter, that her friend was nowhere to be found, thereby, making the hashtag #FindHinnyHumoren trend on Twitter for days.
However the statement titled, ‘Update On The Disappearance Of Miss Iniobong Ephraim Umoren’, by the Akwa Ibom police confirmed that Akpan kidnapped, sexually violated and subsequently buried the victim to cover up his evil deeds.
According to the statement, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Uduak Frank Akpan, 20 years old for kidnapping, raping and murdering one Miss Iniobong Umoren. On 30/04/2021, the Command received a report on the disappearance of the victim.”
The statement revealed that,“To cover his tracks, he dragged and buried her in a shallow grave in his father’s compound. The deceased has been exhumed and deposited at UUTH (University Of Uyo Teaching Hospital) for autopsy.”
