In a statement released by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, on Monday 28 persons were rescued from the hands of some group of ‘kidnappers’ at the Irepeni Forest last Thursday after a shootout between the new security outfit and the Kidnappers.,
The statement further read that following the discovery of the camp of these kidnappers, the local hunters, who form part of this security outfit engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle leaving those who escaped with injuries and arresting others.
This made it possible for the hunters to rescue the victims; comprising 24 adults and four children
The commissioner further speaking, said that the Kogi government had accepted the responsibility for the transport of the rescued victims to their various destinations, “many of whom were heading to the North-East.”
