Ex-Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo has been released by kidnappers.
Obodo was abducted on Sunday evening by gunmen along Refinery road, Warri in Delta State, when he stopped by the roadside to buy a banana.
According to The Nation, the former Udinese midfielder has been freed as confirmed by one of his friends.
“Engr. Big Sam, said: “He has been released. He was released last night. I met him this morning. The town is becoming more unsafe. We are glad that he is back home.”
Obodo was said to have paid an undisclosed amount of money to regain his freedom.
It should be recalled that Obodo was also abducted by gunmen in 2012 when he was on his way back from Church in Warri. He was rescued by police who tracked the kidnappers to Isoko where they found Obodo and arrested the suspects.
The former Udinese star made 21 appearances for Nigeria between 2004 and 2008 scoring four goals.
Obodo was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2006 African Cup of Nations playing four out of the six games, he scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe.
