June 12: “Fighting Corruption In Democracy Is Difficult”- Buhari

On the commemoration of Democracy day, President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his support for specialised courts to try corruption cases.

The President reportedly stated that fighting corruption in a democracy is difficult.

He stated that, “I would like to repeat what I used to say. When I was younger in the uniform, when I came, I arrested the president, vice president, ministers, governors and commissioners and put them under detention and told them that they were guilty until they could prove themselves innocent.”

He added that,  “Now, this is opposite the democratic system as people would like to believe.”

The President said he was not satisfied with the current state of the economy and that was why his regime was pushing harder, making it known that, ‘APC’ll do everything possible to remain in power’.

Buhari stressed that,, “We are doing all we can to make the APC be in power for as long as possible. That is why we carried out the revalidation exercise. From state to state, local government to local government and ward by ward.”
