It has been reported that heavily armed gunmen invaded a jail in Nigeria’s central Kogi state overnight, which led to the escape scores of inmates.
According to a statement by the Nigeria Correctional Service spokesman Francis Enobore, “The medium Security Custodial Centre in Kabba, Kogi State, has been attacked by yet to be identified gunmen and 240 inmates forcefully released.”
He disclosed that, “At about 2245 GMT on Sunday, numerous attackers “engaged the armed guards in a fierce gun battle.”
He added that, “But the gunmen invaded the prison, which had 294 prisoners in custody at the time, including 224 pre-trial detainees.”
He reportedly made it known that investigations are on to find the escapees.
