Following cases of insecurity across the country and the necessity of the compulsory one-year service to the nation after graduation, the State Coordinators of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the North-East have been reportedly enjoined to improve the security and welfare of both corps members and staff in the region.
This was mandated by the Director North-East Area office, Baba Ladan, during a maiden meeting with State Coordinators in the region.
According to him, “The meeting will identify ways of promoting grassroots relevance of the scheme in order to reinvigorate Community Development Service and NYSC outreaches.”
He noted, “We would rub minds on enhanced welfare, safety and security of corps members and staff, review some salient issues in policy implementation, deliberate on ways of imbibing good leadership qualities, a guide to building confidence and patriotism in subordinate offices for effective service delivery, and evaluate the performance of secretariats, operational strategies, expected outcomes, and challenges.”
He maintained, “The responsibilities of Area offices is to ensure the unity of the command, provide efficient monitoring, strengthening of operational, and administrative effectiveness of the Scheme at the grassroots level in order to reduce work-load of the Secretariats through decentralization process.”
