Following the deployment of members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to different states across Nigeria, it has been reported that the highest Yoruba Organization, Afenifere has advised the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to allow Corp members to serve in their home states.
This was reportedly disclosed by the National Publicity Secretary, Jere Ajayi in a statement on Monday.
This was in reaction to one of the tips in the safety awareness handbook given to the Corp members that they should inform their people to prepare ransom in case they were kidnapped while travelling.
According to the statement, “What else could underscore the unfortunate level to which insecurity in the country has fallen? It is in this respect that Afenifere calls for the NYSC to allow youth corpers to serve the nation in their respective states at least for now.”
The statement added that, “We call on the government to immediately allow states to transform their respective security networks into state police with all the powers appertaining thereto.”
