Following reports of violence at the Ekiti East Constituency Bye-election today, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has suspended the election indefinitely.
This has been revealed in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voters Education Committee, Festus Okoye on the 20th of March, 2021.
According to the statement, unidentified gunmen unleashed mayhem at some polling units, thereby disrupting the election process.
The statement further revealed that the unfortunate incident had led to the death of some innocent voters, while some INEC staff and a policeman sustained injury and are being treated.
INEC has therefore declared the election suspended Indefinitely, as the situation was an avowed commitment to electoral dignity.
The Commission made it known that continuing with the election process would be a reward for bad behavior, and that security agencies are already investigating the matter.
