Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho started the season on an impressive note after helping Leicester City to a 1-0 win over Manchester City to win the 2021 Community Shield.
Iheanacho came off the bench in the second half, he was fouled in the 18-yard box by Nathan Ake with two minutes to go.
The referee pointed to the spot and Iheanacho made no mistake with his effort to hand Leicester City another trophy after they won the FA Cup in May.
He reacted to the penalty call after the match.
“I think it’s a penalty,” Iheanacho explained to ITV after the final whistle. “[Ake] caught me. The referee saw it but he wanted us to play on, so if we scored it would have been okay.
“I have been practicing [my penalties]. I missed one last season but I have been practicing all the time. I just had it in my mind to shoot on an angle and hit it hard, so that’s what I did.”
