Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kyari, has grieved the passing on of Chief Festus Remi Ayodele Marinho, pioneer Managing Director NNPC.
Chief Marinho who died yesterday, served twice as managing director of the Corporation 1977-1979 and 1984-1985 respectively.
According to a press release by Dr. Kennie Obateru, General Manager, NNPC Public Affairs Division, Marinho was the first and only Managing Director of the defunct Nigerian National Oil Corporation (NNOC) and forerunner of NNPC.
A condolence message released by Mallam Kyari to the Late Marinho’s family addresses him as “the Father of Oil & Gas Industry in Nigeria”. The message points this fact to be true because of the outstanding pioneering roles he played in the crafting of the NNPC’s institutional framework, infrastructural development and international best practices being used in the Corporation till now.
Kyari added that his achievements in the Corporation would be a great source of inspiration for future leaders and staff.
“His role in refinery and pipeline construction and human capacity development are all testimonies of his contribution to national development”.
“He was indeed a rare gem and we will surely miss his wisdom and wealth of experience,” Kyari said.
