FG Recovers Stolen Ile-Ife Sculpture from Mexico

The Federal Government has successfully recovered an ancient stolen Ile-Ife Bronze Sculpture from Mexico.

This was disclosed in a tweet by the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama on Friday 9 April, 2021.

The ancient bronze sculpture which was presented to the minister by the Chargé Affaires of The Nigerian Embassy in Mexico, Dr. Yakubu Dadu was discovered in an airport in Mexico by the Former Ambassador to Mexico, Amina Iyawa.

Amina who has been suspicious of the identity of the sculpture then proceeded to alert Mexican authorities who ensured the recovery and safe delivery of the artifact to Nigeria.

In his tweet, Onyeama expressed his gratitude to the Mexican Government for the safe return of the sculpture and stated that he would present it to the Minister of Information and Communication, Lai Mohammed at a later date.
