The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has disclosed that the Federal Government is borrowing “sensibly and responsibly”, despite the current debt profile of the country.
She reportedly disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja, where she was joined at the briefing by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; as well as some other top government officials from her ministry.
Ahmed’s defence of the Federal Government on the rate of borrowing, was an answer to a question on whether the government’s continued borrowing was not capable of impacting negatively on the economic growth recorded so far.
The Minister made it known that, “We are borrowing sensibly and responsibly to invest on critical infrastructures. These investments will make returns in future.”
