Stemming from the overpopulation of inmates in Nigerian prisons, as part of the Federal Government’s effort towards decongesting prisons, Nigeria’s Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, has announced that the government will rehabilitate all correctional centres throughout the nation.
He said this while inspecting the almost completed 3000-capacity correctional facility at Janguza in Kano State.
According to the minister, the facility will serve as a modelling in Africa, and Similar centres like this one which is in North-Western Nigeria will be erected in other five geopolitical zones.
Inmates are expected to move to this facility once it is functional.
Inmates at the Kano Correctional Centre will be moved to the new facility when it becomes operational.
