An international team of 13 scientists examining the origins of the coronavirus have arrived Wuhan, China today.
WHO had convened a day-long virtual meeting of scientists from around the world, consisting of more than 1750 experts from 124 countries, to discuss critical knowledge gaps and research priorities for emerging variants of the virus.
In a welcome remark, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated:
“Science and research have played a vital role in responding to the pandemic since day one and will continue to be the heartbeat of everything WHO does.”
Scientists remarked that research is important to have prior comprehension of the potential impact of emerging variants on diagnostics, treatments and vaccines.
“The experts will begin their work immediately during the 2 weeks quarantine protocol for international travellers,” Dr Teldros said today.
