Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 also Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha has disclosed that the PTF has authorized the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) to immediately initiate the 450 tests per LGA plan, nationwide, beginning with States that are pioneering resourcing and infrastructure.
Boss Mustapha, while speaking on Monday, January 18, explained that testing has shown to become more significant in the nation’s response to the pandemic.
According to him, South Africa, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Algeria, and Kenya now account for 76% of the total cases of coronavirus in Africa. Also, Nigeria has climbed up to position three in the highest cumulative number of cases, bags 2nd for new cases and 5th in cumulative deaths in Africa.
Boss Mustapha pointed out that one of every five persons tested turned out positive during tests carried out in the passing week.
Speaking further, he assured that the PTF is making the move to place a sanction against all in-bound international travelers that refused to undergo a 7-day arrival test, and a next list of about 100 defaulters will be published by the body.
He also solicited with State Governmets to enable their EOCs to improve on sample collection, as well as the capacities of the PCR Laboratories established in their States.
