Champions League: Real Madrid Brush Aside Chelsea, Villarreal Stun Bayern

Real Madrid earned a vital 3-1 over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge courtesy of a hat-trick by Karim Benzema to give the Galacticos a strong advantage going into the second leg.

French striker, Benzema opened the scoring with a glancing header in the 21-st minute and quickly added the second goal three minutes later to stun the supporters at SW6.

Kai Havertz reduced the deficit with another header just before half time to give the hosts hope going into the second half.

Thomas Tuchel took off Ngolo Kante and Andrea Christensen for Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech in a bid to add more urgency to Chelsea’s attack.

Benzema completed his hat-trick when Edouard Mendy fumbled a pass into his path in the first real action of the half to give Real Madrid a 3-1 lead.

Romelu Lukaku was handed Chelsea’s best chance of his second half but he was unable to hit the target from a weak header in a good position.

Villarreal earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in Spain thanks to a goal from Christopher Danjuma.
