Champions League: Chelsea Stun Atletico Madrid, Bayern Spank Lazio

Chelsea recorded a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid away from home in a Champions League clash to hold a vital advantage going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts failed to register a single shot on target as Chelsea dominated possession from the beginning to the end, but they were unable to get a breakthrough in the first half as the clash ended 0-0.

Oliver Giroud furthermore underlined his importance for Chelsea on big occasions with a stunning overhead kick goal few minutes past the hour-mark to give Chelsea a deserved lead.

Atletico Madrid gave their all to rally back into the game but Chelsea held on to earn an impressive victory.

Defending Champions, Bayern Munich halted their mini dip in form with a 4-1 thumping of Lazio.

Robert Lewandoski opened the scoring with his 72nd Champions League goal following a back pass from Acerbi.

Jabal Musiala, Leroy Sane added the other goals in a dominant display that was characterized by errors from Lazio players.

Acerbi added to the host’s misery after diverting into his own net to make it 4-1 for Bayern Munich.

The second leg is billed for March 17 in Munich.
