The Commissioner for Women Affairs Kano State, Dr Zahra’u Muhammad Umar on Monday announced that the state will begin evacuating beggars, hawkers and individuals aimlessly roaming the streets in a bid to control nuisance on the streets of the state.
Stakeholders as well as religious leaders of the state have long spoken with the government on the best advance to solve the situation in the state she said.
She said while speaking to the press, “We have concluded plans to clear the streets of Kano of hawkers and beggars to ensure sanity and rid the streets of all forms of crimes. The project is due to begin on Wednesday and will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the streets are sanitized”.
Rehabilitation of 47 homeless men and women as well as receiving two batches of Almajiris from Kaduna state recently have all been an attempt to take individuals off the street.
The Commissioner also stressed that it would help in curtailing the spread of the global pandemic COVID-19 in the state.
Nigeria recorded 685 new cases over the last 24hrs with Kano being the fourth highest with 40 new cases.
