Arsenal have completed the signing of Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu for a reported fee of £19.8 million from Bologna.
The 22-year-old can play as center back and a right back which will give Arteta options to replace Hector Bellerin who left the club to join Real Betis on loan.
“Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level,” Arteta said.
“He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability and composure on the ball.
“He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty.”
Tomiyasu is rated one of the best defenders in Italy and Arsenal fans will be hoping he hits the ground running to help the team.
