Yinka Odumakin, Spokesman for Afenifere has been pronounced dead at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Saturday due to complications from Covid-19.
Odumakin, who was receiving treatment for the ailment at the Mainland Hospital (formerly IDH), Yaba, was transferred to LASUTH and was placed in the ICU for over a week before his death.
The late renowned human rights activists was a major part of the Nigerian political system both past and present dating from his stand against General Sani Abacha after the annulment of June 12, 1993 elections to his recent disagreement with the Muhammadu Buhari administration over alleged partiality and favoritism in appointment of individuals into various government offices.
He was also consistent in his condemnation of the killings perpetrated by the herders group in the Western region of the country.
Odumakin is survived by his wife, Josephine Okei-Odumakin and two children.
