Saido Mane saved Senegal’s blushes with a 97th-minute winner from the penalty spot to condemn Zimbabwe to a 1-0 defeat in Group B opening match.
The Teranga Lions were dominant in the game but the Zimbabweans gave them a tough time for their money by denying them a chance to score.
Saido Mane missed a clear-cut chance in the first half and Papy Cisse also headed wide from a good position.
The only goal of the game came at the death when Kelvin Madzongue handled the ball while diving in to block a shot with just seconds of added to go and the referee pointed to the spot.
Mane made no mistake from the spot as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way in the 97-th minute to hand Senegal the maximum points.
