The Lagos State Police has announced the arrest of eight suspected traffic robbers in Ketu, Lagos State.
The arrests were made between Thursday night and the early hours of Friday, 12th February.
The Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi and a team of RRS operatives arrested five of the suspects on Thursday 11th February 2021 at about 10:30pm at Motorways end of Ketu.
The three other suspects were arrested during their regular operation by another RRS patrol team by 6am the following day.
Fa’izu Ado, m, 25, Segun Oluwatoyin, m, 27, Haruna Shuaibu, m, 29, Amos Abayomi, ,m 24, Monday Obayemi,m, 25, Okunlola Olawale, m, 21, Olawuyi Olayinka, m, 27 and Mayowa Adeleke, m, 17, were the arrested suspects.
Amos Abayomi, one of the suspects confessed to the police that traffic robbery was his only source of income.
He explained that he as well as other hoodlums would rob motorists and commuters with the help of motor boys who would block the highways with their trucks at dawn thereby inducing artificial traffic.
Abayomi belonged to the Eiye cult fraternity and has a habit of stealing phones and handing them over to his accomplice by name Akube who is still to be found by the police. He stole a young lady’s Tecno Spark 4 phone on the morning of his arrest.
He further identified Monday Obayemi (arrested in possession of hard drugs) as a drug dealer who sold drugs to criminals and the other suspects on the highway.
Amongst items recovered from the suspects include, matchetes, weapons, charms, mobile phones and hard drugs like cocaine.
The suspects are to be taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba by the order of The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu for discreet investigation and prosecution.
