Following the ban placed on Twitter in Nigeria on the 4th of June, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari, has reportedly lifted the ban, effective from 12 am, 13th January, 2022.
This was made known in a press statement on Wednesday signed by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, Kashifu Abdullahi.
According to the statement, “The Federal Government of Nigeria directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12 am tonight, January 13, 2022.”
The statement added, “The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami.”
This is coming after 222 days of placing a ban on the social media platform in Nigeria, due to the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech, which was termed a genocide speech, and against the policy of the media platform.
